Trans-Atlantic Air Post 1919. One Dollar on 15c. red on envelope from the first flight crossing the North Atlantic by pilots Alcock and Brown in the Vickers Vimy flying machine. The stamp cancelled by machine cds St. Johns june 11 1919, 10.30 am and arrival postmark London june 17 1919 on reverse. The bi-plane landed in a bog in Ireland completing the first non-stop flight and winning The Daily Mail prize. Captain Alcock took the mail bag to London and the contents were datestamped 17th june 1919. Envelope has on front the annotation : Certify that this letter was brought to England by the Vickers Vimy Rolls Aeroplane ..... St. Johns 14.6.19 V. Gordon, a fine and rare cover, cat.v. £ 3000
