10d. brown, large margins tied by "London -N- AU 25 1863" duplex on entire (some faults, vertical fold through entire, soiled on places), underpaid 6d. (plus 6d. fine) as the postage for a letter routed via Marseilles was 1s.4d., adressed to a "Captain Pike, Dutch Settlement Padang, Straits of Malacca, East Indies".A remarkable cover of the 10d. embossed from the Re-issue period when the 10d.embossed already withdrawn in 1853 was re-issued at the beginning of 1862, and 2012 sheets (of 24 stamps each) left over at Somerset House were started to be delivered to Post Offices on demand. Nevertheless the demand was very little and the stock was not exhausted until late in 1866. To date only five covers of the 1848, 10d. embossed used during the Re-Issue period were recorded, all were sent in June and October 1863 from London P.O.'s, plus a piece used in September 1864 in Arbroath/Scotland. The cover offered herewith is, despite its rare destination "Dutch Settlement Padang a remarkable new find and the sixth re-issued cover recorded to date !
