Crash of the Savoia Marchetti SM 83 near Mogador (Morocco) on 24-12-1939. Envelop from Rio de Janeiro 20-12-1939 to Amsterdam with official letter and envelop from the Dutch Postal autorities. (VH -G 110B, not mentioned in Nierinck). The plane was hit by lightning in a severe storm near the Moroccan coast. All the crew and passengers were killed and only a small part of the mail was salvaged. Recovered mail from the plane is therefore rare. Recovered letters to the Netherlands are seldom seen.

Transatlantic Flight New York-Kaunas with the Lituanica flown by Steponas Darius and Stasys Girenas 15-7-1933. Cover with the relevant cachets and the autographs of both pilots, very fine. The flight of the Lituanica went very well but on July 17th, only 400 miles from Kaunas the plane crashed near Pszcelnik (Poland) killing both the pilots.

Transatlantic Flight of the Lituanica II. Cover from Brooklyn, New York to Kaunas carried by Lieutenant Felix Vaitkus during his attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean on September 21st 1935, very fine with autograph of the aviator. Vaitkus was forced to change the original plan to reach Lithuania in one run due to bad weather conditions. He had to make a forced landing in Ireland thereby damaging the plane severely. The remnants of the Lituanica were crated and send by ship to Lithuania where Vaitkus and the wreckage received a heroes welcome.
