Our 256th auction entails extensive collections and stocks of Netherlands and colonies, the first part of the impressive C. Avezaat collection (single frankings and first day covers) and the second part of the P. van Alteren collection (Dutch numeral cancellations). In addition we offer better lots foreign countries (especially French colonies), coins and picture postcards.
1875/1905 French Paquebot postmarks (17x) on covers and stamps send from Haiti, Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico and Brasil including a postcard send from Asuncion (Paraguay) via Buenos Aires to Paris on stockcards in envelope
1900-1960 postal history including Hong Kong fdc RSW 1948 and first flight Hong Kong-Penang-London 1936 (Muller 11), Japan incoming P.O.W. mail for Cpl. Anderson, Hoten Camp, Mudken, Manchukuo 1943, some picture postcards etc.
1944-1945 collection of Japanese POW correspondance (40 letters) including numerous censor seals and stamps. Contents mainly in English and written on rice/ordinary paper. The letters originate from the following camps/'civil assembly centers': Hoten (3), Shanghai (7), Shanghai Civil Assembly Centers (7), Lunghwa (1), Chapei (2), Pootung (2), Haiphong (5), Tachibana (1), Taiwan (8) Correspondance includes letters from POWs (including censored letter from the famous general Jonathan Wainwright who was held prisoner in Taiwan), Red Cross letters, family members etc. Topics largly relate to (relief) goods, shortage of food/goods, forwarded messages etc. Included the biography of general Wainwright: Hero of Bataan by Duane Schultz. Neatly described and of historic significance!

1898/1964 collection postal history of Israel starting with Austrian, Turkish, French and German post offices in Israel (about 18 postcards). Followed by the British occupation of Palestine (incl. about 35 covers and postcards), Interim Period including JNF stamps/sets with Haifa and Tel Aviv overprints on stamps and covers (12x) and about 13 Transjordan covers used in Arab-controlled areas in Israel, nicely arranged in 2 albums
1944-1945 collection of Japanese POW correspondance (36 letters) including numerous censor seals and stamps written in Japanese and/or English and mainly on rice paper. The letters originate from the following cities: Hakodate (4), Tokyo (2), Osaka (12), Zentsuji (6), Fukuoka (5), Hiroshima (3) and Chosen (Korea, 4). Correspondance includes letters from POWs (including Dutch), Red Cross Committee members, family members etc. Topics largly relate to the frustrating lack of communications, medicins etc., but letters of gratitude are also present. Neatly described and of historic significance!
1943-1945 diplomatic correspondance relating to/from IRCC delegates (17 letters) including letters from the Japanese War Ministers Hajime Sugiyama and Tojo, ministry of Foreign Affairs, POW intelligence Office, Japan Consulate in Nanking etc. all censored, neatly described and of historic significance!
1940s Postal Stationery mostly postcards (totally 154 items) some illustrated on album leaves and including Occupation Map of Japan and copy of Life magazine march 27 1944
