1894 2d. olive-bistre (perf. 12½) with the error Swazielan instead of Swazieland (R.6/1) on van Gorcum newspaper wrapper cancelled squared-circle Bremersdorp/Swaziel/6 JAN 94 in black. Assen Holland arrival cds (6.2.94) on reverse. (see Van der Molen p. 36 for a comparable wrapper). This wrapper probably contained printed matter or a newspaper where the rate was 2d. for up to 4 oz. some filing folds clear of adhesive.

1892 a so-called van Gorcum envelope from Bremersdorp to Assen Holland bearing 2d. olive-bistre (3 ex.) all with the error Swazielan instead of Swazieland (R.6/1) neatly cancelled by the squared-circle Bremersdorp/Swaziel/6 jun 92 in blue, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Assen cds on reverse, the envelope is opened-out and a small piece torn from the upper left corner, though a remarkable franking (mentioned in Van der Molen p. 35 and showing the only other cover with multiple missing d),- a very rare cover -. Stamps of Transvaal (South African Republic) used in Swaziland. 2d. olive-bistre of Transvaal (2x) on cover with squared-circle Bremersdorp/Z.A.R./17 MEI 95 via Cape Town to Thayngen Switzerland. on reverse cds Johannesburg (21.5) and arrival cds Thayngen (17.6). The envelope is franked at the UPU rate of 4d. per ½ oz, mail via Natal was slower and cheaper (4d. instead of 5d.) This being the earliest recorded date of the Bremersdorp Z.A.R. squared-circle datestamp (Van der Molen p. 149). Provenance: Talbot Cox
